ANKARA – Police intervened against members of the Private Sector Teachers’ Union gathered in Kurtuluş Park and detained three people.

The Private Sector Teachers’ Union wanted to make a statement in Kurtuluş Park in Çankaya to draw attention to the problems faced by teachers who could not be appointed due to interviews and who work in the private sector. Police blocked the protest, which was also supported by democratic mass organizations.

Preventing the group from making a statement, police detained three people, including Kemal Irmak, Co-Chair of the Education and Science Workers’ Union (Eğitim-Sen).

Education workers were also subjected to a police intervention yesterday in Güvenpark, where they had gathered to make a statement in front of the Ministry of Education. The teachers detained during that protest were released late at night.
